Unfortunately for her, the whole ordeal was captured in plain sight on a surveillance video.
Carly Nunes, of Lakeville, Mass., was working at a liquor store when she sold lottery tickets to customer Paul Little on Jan. 17, according to CNN.
However, Little forgot to pick up the tickets with the bag of chips he purchased. Prosecutors say another customer noticed the tickets and handed them back to Nunes, who was behind the counter at the cash register.
That’s when the 23-year-old allegedly kept the tickets for herself. Later that night, the Mass Millions lottery numbers were revealed and they matched those on one of Little’s tickets.
WCVB reported Nunes plotted to cash the winning ticket with the help of coworker Joseph Reddem, who reportedly drove her to Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters to claim the millions.

Officials suspected things were off when Nunes claimed to have bought the ticket at the end of her shift. The WCVB report said officials noticed the ticket was torn up and burned. Nunes reportedly claimed she accidentally put them on a pipe.

Lottery officials told authorities they noticed Nunes and Reddem arguing, with the latter demanding part of the cash prize after being told that he would only get $200,000, CBS News reported.
An investigation was opened and the prize money is being held until it is finished.
To complicate Nunes’ claims, Plymouth County District Attorney’s office said surveillance video from the liquor store confirmed that it was Little, not Nunes, who purchased the winning lottery ticket.
Upon being interviewed by authorities, the woman walked back her claims of buying the ticket and stated she inadvertently picked up the ticket.
Authorities found the real winner on Feb. 13.
Nunes was arrested Tuesday after failing to show up for a June 12 arraignment. She faces charges of larceny from a building, presentation of a false claim, and witness intimidation, the New York Post reported.
She is currently behind bars with bail set at $10,000. She has pleaded not guilty.
Reddem was also charged with attempted extortion. He was released on his own recognizance.
