Will Hertz accept a debit card? ›

Can I Rent from Hertz Without a Credit Card? We accept debit cards for payment at most of our locations. However, it's always worth checking with the specific location you plan to rent from, just to make sure that they accept them.

Can You Use Someone Else's Credit Card? No, you must use a credit card that's registered to the main driver to rent a car. This is due to the legal responsibility the driver has after signing the rental agreement on pick-up.

How much is the security deposit for a Hertz rental? A $200 refundable security deposit is collected and held by Hertz on your credit card or debit card when you pick up the car. The deposit is returned when you stop renting the vehicle and return the car.

If you rent with a credit card, Hertz will release the hold on the deposit within 24 hours of the vehicle's return. Your bank can take up to 10 days to release the funds. Please contact your bank if your hold has not been returned to you. If you rent with a debit card, the hold amount depends on your bank's policy.

Paying for Your Rental Car with a Debit Card

Renters have the option to prepay for a rental online with a debit card. Some locations may require a credit card at the time of pickup, but you can still pay for the rental with a debit card.

In February 2019, Dollar Car Rental, part of Hertz, announced it would eliminate credit checks and proof of return travel, as well as lower the age restriction, for debit card users. It also revealed that Dollar Car Rental previously had a minimum score requirement of 660.

You can only rent a car with a Cash App card if the rental company accepts Visa debit cards. If they do, you will also need to provide three forms of identification, plus two forms that will verify your address such as bills or bank statements.

Many smaller rental car companies may be willing to accept more flexible payments. Some will accept debit cards, cash, or a check. You will often still need to make a deposit that's refunded when you return the car in good condition. Be sure to check with the companies ahead of time for policies at each location.

The renter of the vehicle must be present to sign the rental agreement and provide their credit card at the time of pick up. The renter cannot provide a credit or debit card belonging to someone else for their use.

Upon collection of the vehicle, REGARDLESS OF THE LEVEL OF INSURANCE, the main driver will be required to leave a guarantee deposit. The amount will be blocked on the main driver's credit card and will be unblocked when returning the car.

Why did Hertz charge me $100? ›

Any changes to the reservation may impact the rental charges. If a prepaid reservation is cancelled more than 24 hours before the pickup time, a $100 cancellation fee will be assessed. If the prepaid reservation is cancelled within 24 hours before the pickup time, a $200 fee will be assessed.

What I need to bring to pickup? We do not accept pre-paid or stored value cards — no Chime, PayPal, etc. Debit cards must be linked to a physical financial institution. Also, your payment method must match the name on your driver's license.

The deposit amount varies depending on the vehicle type. How much is the Hertz hold on my credit card? Hertz can place a hold of up to US$200 for credit cards and US$500 for debit cards on your account. This amount includes the estimated rental charges and additional costs that may occur during the rental period.

Why does it look like I was charged twice? When you extend, we collect the funds held for the previous week and authorize for the next week. This may look like two charges in your account, but only the new authorization will affect your balance.

Once rented there are no refunds or credits for unused rental days. *Cancel or No-Show fees will never exceed the total prepaid amount. Prepaid rental reservations booked directly through Hertz.com may be extended at View/Modify/Cancel.

Budget will place a hold on your debit or credit card at the time of rental to cover estimated charges plus up to $500. Be aware that a debit card hold limits the amount of funds available in the account associated with your card.

Car rental with no credit check using a debit card

Some car rental companies do let you rent a car with a debit card without running a credit check. Enterprise, for example, allows you to use a debit card at airport locations. However, you need to prove you have a ticketed return travel itinerary.
